Onibaba Live Video Now Posted Online

Daren Burns (bassist, composer and procrastinator extraordinaire ; ) ) has posted the 1st set of the Onibaba gig @ Royal T’s from August of this year.  I remember liking this gig but having a hard time w. volume and hearing Daren.  I think the guitar sounds got sorted out more in the second set.

The set features VERY open ended tunes by Daren that well..I’ll let him describe it.

You can see the first set or the second set.  (I like the second set better so I’d recommend starting there).

“Onibaba exists between composition and improvisation and is described as being somewhere between the light and the dark, the ethereal and the earthly – Creative Music. Created by Daren Burns in 2006, the band synthesizes its sound by using elements of the Chicago avant-garde, jazz, rock, world, techno, noise, and classical, to create a new type of fusion that is definitely not the smooth, funky jazz of the 80’s and 90’s, but a new living music.

This is Onibaba’s (onibabamusic.com) performance @ Royal/T (royal-t.org) , put on by Rocco Sommazi’s Angel City Arts (angelcityjazz.com). Performed on 08-07-10 and includes some of Los Angeles’ best and most creative musicians. Enjoy.

Onibaba is:

Vinny Golia – woodwinds
Geroge McMullen – trombone
Scott Collins – guitar
Daren Burns – bass
Joe Berardi – drums/percussion
Kio Griffith – live video

Everyone sounds great on this gig.  I particularly love performing with this group and I hope we can do it more in the future.

(Even though I did feel like an ass looping anything with Andre LaFosse in the audience.)  Weird sounds are generally Daren or me – but McMullen got in on the action a bunch of times as well.

Thanks again for posting Daren!
